On Wednesday October 12, in the midst of a busy midterm week, I hosted a program entitled “Get Throwed Off or Thrown Out”. And for those who don’t know, “Throwed Off” is from a popular song and it means to be hype and drunk at the same time. As an RA in an upperclassmen residence hall, I wanted to give them relevant homecoming tips and advice so they can be not only safe, but also have fun. Since some of my residents are of legal age and can drink off campus, I offered safe drinking habits. I also talked about what to do if you’re in a compromising situation, what to do if you or a friends becomes sick and/or passes out, and how to prepare effectively for this week. The residents that attended the seminar received a Safe Sex Kit, put together by fellow RA Demarcus Crews.
Overall, it was a successful event! The residents were actively engaged, learned some new information, and also shared some of their own tips and advice for Homecoming Week safety.
